HOLIDAY DOOR CONTEST Classroom doors at SeDoMoCha Elementary were decorated around different holiday-themed books as part of a decorating contest, which ended with all pre-K through grade 4 classes being named the winners. Standing by a grade 4 “Charlie Brown Christmas” display, complete with a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, are fourth-graders, from left, Wyatt Preble, Wyatt Rayfield, Karim Aqbarawi, Dylan Coy, Shaley Webber and Meaghan Bubar.

“What we did is connected the holiday season with literacy,” grade 4 teacher Lauren Mullen said. “Each teacher picked a holiday book,” she said as choices such as “The Polar Express” (which had an on and off touch light as part of the display), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Elf on the Shelf” were on display outside the classroom s next to the themed doors and are being shared across the building.

“The whole elementary school is taking part, pre-K through fourth grade, both floors,” Mullen said. She said the titles were not limited to grade-specific selections, as her classroom exit was decorated to tie in with the picture book “A Charlie Brown Christmas” — complete with the main character’s distinct Christmas tree.

“It’s definitely a book that can span pre-K to fourth grade,” Mullen said. She said her students enjoyed having the book read aloud, taking them back to when they were the younger elementary pupils.

“Everybody wins,” Mullen said about the contest as the SeDoMoCha School Organization is providing everyone with popcorn during the final week before the holiday break.
