Area cross country runners compete at state championship meet

Three area runners placed in the top half of their respective fields Saturday during the state high school cross country championships at the Twin Brook Recreation Area in Cumberland.

Foxcroft Academy senior Jen Clawson placed 48th among 103 finishers in the Class B girls race, completing the hilly 3.1-mile course in 22.22.40, or a 7:12.1 per mile pace.

Another Foxcroft senior, Gabe Piquette, was 52nd among 110 finishers in the Class B boys race. He was timed in 18:55.92, or a 6:05.7 per mile pace.

William Strauch, a junior from Dexter Regional High School, finished 44th among 102 finishers in the Class C boys race. He was clocked in 19 minutes, 22.66 seconds — or a 6:14.3 per mile pace.
