Update on Sled Dog Race
To the Editor:
The Wilderness Sled Dog Racing Association is happy to report that we will once again host the annual Plum Creek Wilderness Sled Dog Race on Feb. 6, 2016 in our beautiful Moosehead Lake Region.
The 2015 race was a huge success with 20 mushers participating and over 200 spectators enjoying the day’s festivities and the Moosehead Lake Region. The 2016 Plum Creek Wilderness Sled Dog Race is shaping up to be even better with a fun-filled day for mushers, spectator and sponsors like you to enjoy.
The Plum Creek Wilderness Sled Dog Race is one of the few long distance sled dog races in New England and this year we will be changing the race format to be a 70-mile race. This will enable our spectators to spend more time in town as we are looking to add some other entertainment to the day as well. This race has become very popular with close to 30 teams participating and nearly 500 spectators, which come from all over the U.S. and Canada most spending the weekend and spending dollars in our wonderful town.
As in past years there will be a 30-mile sled dog race in addition to the 70-mile course. All the teams will start and finish in Greenville at Leisure Life Resort, making for a very full and eventful day. There will be events and activities sponsored by AMC and the Greenville Recreation Department throughout the day for the whole family to enjoy in-between watching the start and finish for both races. We will conclude the day with a bonfire and awards ceremony at Leisure Life Resort.
In order to make this all happen we still need your support. You may want to donate for a certain item for the race or a certain program. We are always looking at being creative with sponsorship. You could contribute to specific items needed such as the awards, breakfast or dinner for the mushers, children’s events, volunteer gifts. Please contact Bethany Young and Bethany@greenvilleme.com for more detailed list of items and pricing.
Depending on your level of contribution if your business chooses to support our race, your business name and logo will be displayed for all the mushers and spectators to see. Our organization also has 501(c)(3) status so your contributions will be tax deductible.
We also encourage you to join the day or encourage your employees to volunteer for this event. Last year volunteers came from some Maine colleges and from all over New England to experience what is “The Plum Creek Wilderness Sled Dog Race.”
Please visit our website www.100milewildernessrace.org. See why this event continues to be a major event for New England and the entire sled dog racing community. Donations can be made out to Wilderness Sled Dog Racing Association and mailed to PO Box 311 Greenville, ME 04441 by Jan. 1, 2016.
