Piquette wins Riot Challenge

   

ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy cross country team ran in the fourth annual Riot Challenge meet at Orono High School on Oct. 9.

Pony senior Gabe Piquette had the day’s fastest time on the four-kilometer course. His first-place time was 14 minutes, 17.20 seconds, about 15 seconds faster than the runner-up and the best of 45 runners. Piquette’s finish helped Foxcroft total 59 points, which was good for second out of five teams — trailing only the 25 picked up by the host school.

Senior Cooper Nelson crossed the finish line next for Foxcroft, placing 13th overall at 15:54.50. Junior Liam Casey was right behind in 14th place at a time of 15:57.80. The Pony top five was rounded out by freshman Nicholas Danemen, tied for 17th at 16:28.90, and senior Paul Birtwistle, 24th at 17:10.60.

The rest of the Foxcroft contingent was comprised of junior Ethan Poland, 29th at 17:50.10; sophomore Kazu Kawashima, 31st at 18:02.20; sophomore Kaiyuan Ma, 32nd at 18:02.40; senior Joon Yeob Kim, 37th at 19:03.20; and senior Blaine Robinson, 42nd at 20:50.70.

Dexter Regional High School junior William Strauch ran at the Riot Challenge. He was ninth overall in a time of 15:39.10.

In the girls’ meet, Foxcroft scored 62 points to finish second out of four teams.

Senior Jen Clawson finished third out of a field of 37 entrants, covering the four kilometers in a time of 17:17.70.

Next to cross the finish line for the Ponies was sophomore Jenna Clukey, who came in fifth at 19:19.60. Senior Alice Russo was 14th at 20:54.70. The rest of the Foxcroft five was sophomore Virginia Macomber, who was 22nd at 21:48, and junior Sujeong Kim, 24th at 22:10.
