September Grange events
Thursday, Sept. 3 Piscataquis Pomona Grange meets at the Valley Grange in Guilford beginning with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. — bring a dish to share! Program starts at 7 p.m. The Pomona Grange includes representation of all Granges in the Piscataquis County area and serves to increase communication and planning. Thursday, Sept. 10 Garland Grange will host the Garland Days pie baking contest starting at 6 p.m. The annual event has four categories this year: apple, fruit, cream, other, plus a special kids’ category. For more information please contact Andrea Rollins at 717-7027. Starting at 7 p.m. (while the pie judging is taking place) John Bunker from Fedco Trees, an expert on apples, will discuss the history of apples in Maine and, more specifically, Garland.
Saturday, Sept. 12 starting at 5 pm, Garland Grange will serve its baked bean supper in conjunction with Garland Days. The menu includes baked beans ,hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, homemade bread and desserts including apple crisp. Takeout is available. Following the baked bean supper, there will be a family contra dance held upstairs at the Garland Grange Hall. Family friendly live music, and all dances are taught. Caller is John McIntire and music by Some Reel People. For more information call 277-3961 or 924-3925.
Saturday, Sept. 12 Wayside Grange will offer a boiled dinner from 5-6:30 p.m. with live music. The menu includes salad, desserts, pretty good coffee and lemonade. Take out service will be available after 6:30. For more information call Chester Bekier at 924-5711.
Sunday, Sept. 13 Garland Grange wakes up early to serve a Garland Days breakfast from 7-10 a.m.The menu includes eggs made to order, sausage, bacon, home fries, toast, juice, coffee and more. For additional information contact Rollins at 717-7027.
Friday, Sept. 18 Valley Grange meets for a community potluck supper at 6 p.m. — all are invited to bring a dish to share. The program beginning at 7 p.m. will include a planning discussion of the Words for Thirds Program for 2015-16 (Valley Grange gives a dictionary to every third-grade student in four districts in the area.) Saturday, Sept. 19 Parkman Grange is hosting the fourth annual military appreciation supper from 4-6 p.m. This a free meal for active and retired military, all others by donation. Saturday, Sept. 26 a Variety Show at Wayside Grange includes local musicians, poetry and satirical skits. This year’s skit will include characters we’ve all suffered on the supermarket and convenience store check-out lines, ala Key and Peele.
