Sebec residents approve $590K budget

SEBEC — Citizens gave their approval to a municipal budget of just over $590,600 for the 2015-16 fiscal year during the 38-article annual town meeting on Aug. 10 at the Harland A. Ladd Municipal Building. This gross budget represents an increase of just under $49,800 or 9.2 percent from the previous year.

The budget includes monies from various revenue sources and funds carried forward, which all together equal a sum of approximately $375,800  and then a net town budget figure of about $214,860.

In addition to the monetary articles, attendees also approved a road work ordinance. The ordinance states that road work with a cost of over $5,000 must go out to public bid, with bid terms agreed upon by the board of selectmen and the road commissioner.

Another article approved said that, starting with the 2016 annual town meeting, the road commissioner will be hired by the selectmen instead of being elected by the voters. Serving in the position for the next year will be J.J. Flint, who was elected at the town meeting.

Other positions voted during the Aug. 10 session included Walter Emmons being reelected to another three-year term as selectman. Carol Cress will serve three more years as the town clerk, treasurer and tax collector.
