Pearsall wins for the fourth year in a row

DOVER-FOXCROFT — A field of 87 ran through the streets of Dover-Foxcroft, starting and concluding by the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, during the 19th annual Pony Pride 5K on the morning of Aug. 1. The road race is held as part of Foxcroft Academy’s Alumni Weekend, which coincides with the annual Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming.

FAST PONY STAMPEDE –– A field of 87 entrants begins the 19th annual Pony Pride 5K on Aug. 1 in Dover-Foxcroft, a race held as part of Foxcroft Academy’s Alumni Weekend. Graham Pearsall, a 2009 Foxcroft Academy graduate who now is the school’s director of communications, won the Pony Pride 5K for the fourth year in a row with a time of 16:41. Pearsall extended his race record for most consecutive first-place finishes, and became the first runner to win the event four times.

Graham Pearsall, a 2009 Foxcroft graduate who continued his cross country and indoor/outdoor track career at Bates College in Lewiston and recently took over as Foxcroft Academy’s director of communications, won the Pony Pride 5K for the fourth year in a row. Pearsall, who in 2014 became the first to win the race three years in a row, covered the 3.1 miles in a time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds to best runner-up Brock Albee by two minutes and 45 seconds. Pearsall’s time this year ended up being the fastest of his four-peat, a second better than when he began his streak in 2012.

Pearsall also broke a tie with Tim Wakeland and Eric Rudolph for most all-time first-place finishes. Wakeland won the inaugural Pony Pride 5K in 1997 and then did likewise in 2000 and 2004. Rudolph’s titles came in 2005, 2008 and 2009.
