McKusick to lead Sebec Lake ‘Sings’

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The popular community sings of over 60 years ago at Sebec Lake can be relived again this month when Lee McKusick, the original song leader, returns to lead folks in the old favorites. The public is urged to attend this fun sing-along.

McKusick called friends recently to say that he and wife Barbara will be coming to Maine in August and that he could schedule Aug. 12 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. for a “Sing”. Many will remember fondly the Wednesday night sings McKusick led during the summers he was a college student, while heading up and teaching classes in the Kiwanis Red Cross swim program at the municipal beach at Sebec Lake. Six decades later, the McKusick-led  event will be a happy reunion for those who were around to enjoy the original song fests, and a special treat is in store for the public who missed them the first time.

Both sing nights will be held on the shore of Sebec Lake on the Smith property near where the old Tea Room and White Boat House used to be. Paul Smith will have a roaring bonfire ready to greet the singers. Each person who attends is advised to bring a folding chair and a flashlight. To reach the spot, simply park at the Greeley’s Landing parking lot near the town boat ramp. A sign will direct singers to a short path which will lead to the bonfire.  If anyone has questions, email them to mga@tdstelme.net.
