Correctional crews help restore cemetery
SEBEC — Recently the Sebec Corner Cemetery has had some restoration work done by the Charleston Correctional Facility work crews. Over time the headstones had depreciated, fallen over or broken off. Some of the old stones had laid flat on the ground and had sunk into the dirt and others had broken off at the bases and needed to be re-caulked to be put back together.
A crew headed up by CO/CTI Leon Gerry and CO/CTI Corey Hill were able to come to Sebec and work for several days on this project. The crew dug down and lifted stones up and filled in with loam (donated by Flint Construction) so as to keep the yard level for mowing. They did a wonderful job and officials from Sebec Corner Cemetery are very grateful for the willingness and professionalism put into projects such as this.
One of the inmates was overheard on the way back to the facility, that last day, saying how it made him feel good to do something that made the cemetery look so great. The cemetery association is very happy to have had them. and says thank you.
