Night with the Notables a hit

To the Editor;

    A Night with the Notables – and Friends, a variety show held at the Milo Town Hall Arts Center on May 29th, was a huge success! The event sponsored by The Notables, a singing group from the Milo area, was held as a benefit for the Milo Area Food Cupboard and admission was by donation. They performed to a full house and at the end of the night the group had raised more than $1,100 for the food cupboard.

    Performances included several numbers by The Notables including “Another Op’nin’”, “Kids”, “When I’m 64”, “My Favorite Things” (the senior citizen version), “The Workout Song” and “She’s Got You”. Anyone who knows the group knows that everything is planned in a spirit of humor and people were certainly laughing on Friday night! In addition the ladies sang “Calendar Girl” accompanied by more than a dozen beautiful little girls dressed up to represent various months of the year.

    The Milo-Brownville Singers performed. Olivia Kuchinski offered both flute and piano solos. There were two skits by the Penquis Valley Middle School Drama Club under the direction of Haley Emery. Morita’s School of Dance performed a Jazz Routine and a dance “duet” was presented by Cora Bailey and Rachel McMannus. Leigha Woodard entertained the audience with a gymnastics routine and there was a Men’s Quartet (Lew Dyer, Neil Hamlin, Larry Keef and Virgil Valente) to reminisce with three songs from years ago.

    Burleigh Raven, the Accordion Man, performed a number of songs accompanied by dancers Carrie Lumbra and Robert Page and John Sherburne and Ellen DeWitt added to the enjoyment by playing the spoons.

    To close the show the entire group of performers sang a medley of patriotic songs ending with the audience joining them for “God Bless America”.

    Thanks go to JSI Store Fixtures for printing posters for the event and Chet Gillis for designing the posters; to Melanie Hussey and Louise Rhoda for their assistance; Seth Barden, who videoed the highlights of the show; CeCe Harmon, piano accompanist; Russell Carey, master of ceremonies for the evening; and Stephanie Gillis for helping organize the event. Thanks also to fellow members of The Notables who performed: Nancy Barden, Vikki

Carey, Debbie Dunham, Stephanie Gillis, CeCe Harmon and Susan Keith.
