Ribbon cutting at Shiretown Pizza

Well-known restaurant to return

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Pamela Ames thought she was retiring a little over a year ago, and closed the doors of Shiretown Pizza for what she thought was the last time. She was wrong.

Ames made her first pizza back in 1983. Over the years, Shiretown became very well-known for great pizza and delicious sandwiches. So well known, in fact, that Ames could not go anywhere without someone recognizing her and asking her to bring Shiretown Pizza back. From Dexter to Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft to Milo, fans of her pizza and sandwiches pleaded with her to give it another go. Ames, along with her husband and other close family and friends, is doing just that.

On Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m., after the Piscataquis River Race,  there will be a ribbon cutting to welcome Shiretown back to the community and Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce family. Pizza –by-the-slice will be served until closing, and for one day only, Shiretown will be serving fried dill pickles. Though it has not yet been confirmed, the original owner of Shiretown Pizza, who started the businesses 38 years ago, may be present for the  ribbon cutting.

Shiretown is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, and delivers every day, all day, except between the hours of 2-4.
