White Receives MPA Principal’s Award

DEXTER — Michaela White, a senior at Dexter Regional High School and the daughter of Mike and Shannon White, was selected to receive the 2015 Principal’s Award, Principal Stephen Bell announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Bell wrote, “Michaela is an incredible young lady from a small rural community that truly has a chance to make a difference in the world.  Michaela has already made her mark or made a difference in her own community.  This past school  year when one of her senior classmates was battling cancer and suffering through very painful chemotherapy, Michaela and the Key Club led an effort to help support the student and his family. The effort ended up becoming a regional effort and schools and businesses from around the state contributed to this cause.  In the end, Michaela and the key Club raised close to $10,000 for this family to put towards his medical bills and support the travel to Boston on a regular basis for treatment.  Michaela will graduate as No.1 in her class and has been accepted into the University of Pennsylvania.”

Due to a Key Club commitment White was unable to attend an Honors Luncheon on April 5 at Spectacular Event Center in Bangor. She instead was presented her plague at a school wide assembly.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
