Foxcroft Golf Club is a hole in one
The Foxcroft Golf Club is part of the community with a public, 9-hole par 36 course nestled in the heart of Piscataquis County. Through early October, tournaments benefitting area organizations and promotions are held nearly every weekend.
The tourney schedule is updated through www.foxcroftgolfclub.com and the club’s Facebook page. “We run specials off and on that way,” said Cory Campbell of the Foxcroft Golf Club about the promotions, which include a $10 rate through the end of May to play all day long. He said veterans will be able to play for free during the Fourth of July weekend (July 3-5), a way for the club to give back to those who served their country.
Children 12 and under play for free with a paying adult every day at the Foxcroft Golf Club to help introduce these young golfers to the sport. Campbell said a children’s clinic is planned for July, and members of high school golf teams can work on their game with reduced rates at the golf club.
Continual improvements are being made, such as new sand traps at three holes to add a little challenge. The Foxcroft Golf Club recently joined the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce in Greenville to help promote the course further. The club is also part of a punch card promotion which can able golfers to play two rounds at various courses in the region.
Starting on Memorial Day weekend, breakfast will be served on Sundays. Also coming in the near future will be a large tent that can be used for various functions held at the Foxcroft Golf Club.
“It is definitely a course that anyone can come play and feel welcome at,” Bobbi Nickerson of the Foxcroft Golf Club said. “We definitely have a great group of members helping out to make the course look beautiful.”
Club members are greatly appreciated for all their help in taking care of the course. Campbell said Herb Severance “is still out here mowing the fairways at 85 years old.” He said other members pitch in during spring and fall workdays, providing assistance in every way possible.
The Foxcroft Golf Club is located at 84 Foxcroft Center Road in Dover-Foxcroft, and is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk. For information, please call 564-8887 or go to the club website and Facebook pages.
