Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day May 14

   AUGUSTA — The annual observance of Maine Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day will be held Thursday, May 14. Gov. Paul LePage will be the featured speaker at the event scheduled at 11 a.m.

   No new names are being added this year to the memorial which honors the 83 Maine police officers who have died in the line of duty.
   The most recent death was Game Warden pilot Daryl Gordon, who died in a plane crash at Clear Lake in northern Piscataquis County on March 24, 2011. Gordon had served with the Maine Warden Service for 25 years including seven as a pilot.
   The two agencies with the most names on the memorial are the Maine Warden Service and the state police. There are 15 game wardens and 10 state troopers honored on the memorial, which is located on State Street next to the State House.
