DOVER-FOXCROFT — An annual tradition at Mayo Regional Hospital is to honor a member of the nursing staff during the hospital’s observance of National Nurses Week. On the morning of May 4, Cathy Cody was recognized as the 2015 Nurse of the Year at Mayo Regional Hospital.
With many of Cody’s colleagues gathered in the hospital lobby, Vice President of Patient Care Services Denise Scuderi thanked all present for attending and said, “We had a great response, this year there were 12 nominations.”
Scuderi said several nurses received multiple nominations “and I think that speaks volumes.”

NURSE OF THE YEAR — Cathy Cody, left, was named the 2015 Nurse of the Year at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft during a ceremony on May 4. Cody was presented with the honor by Vice President of Patient Care Services Denise Scuderi, right.

Joking that she did not want to be too specific and prematurely give away who the Nurse of the Year is, Scuderi said she has known the 2015 award recipient for a while. “She is a very impressive nurse, she is involved in Mayo Regional Hospital in a number of ways,” Scuderi said.
She said Cody will work in different departments, such as the emergency room and med surg, and on overnight shifts and serves on various hospital councils and committees. Scuderi said Cody has a calming presence that puts others at ease “and she has a positive attitude that affects patients and nurses around her.” Scuderi then announced she was describing Cody, who was met with a round of applause by those present to honor her.
“I’m on my third year,” Cody said about her time at Mayo Regional Hospital, which began when she worked part-time on the night shifts. Before coming to the hospital, Cody served as a school nurse at the SeDoMoCha School.
Cody thanked those who are involved in the Nurse of the Year honor and said, “Mayo Regional Hospital is a really nice place and it is really a home. We are all family. It is all about the people, whether it is the patients or us. We really make it the best place we can make it.
