Dexter playground at Crosby Park becomes reality

Contributed Article

It has been a long journey, but the Dexter Community Playground Committee is happy to announce that the long awaited playground will be finished within a few weeks. After four years of planning and fundraising the playground at Crosby Park in Dexter will be up and running in time for our children and families in our area to enjoy for the summer. Professional installers will be coming to Dexter in a couple weeks to build the remainder of the playground.
The Dexter Playground Committee wishes to thank citizens for their patience while this process has been ongoing. It was originally thought that the whole playground would be in within a year or two but, due to the economy, it took much longer to get the necessary money to complete the project.

It has been wonderful to see families using the first portion of the playground that was installed in June, 2013. The remaining portion going in is much larger with more pieces for children to enjoy. There will also be five new spring toys being installed. Two of them were donated by the Dexter Fire Department in Memory of Jimmy Gudroe and other fallen fire fighters.
As part of the fundraising process, the Playground Committee adopted Family Fun Day that has been held at Crosby Park the last two years in September. It is being held again this year on September 12th and will mark the Grand Opening of the Playground. Mark the date on your calendar as this event promises to be a fun day for everyone.
The Committee has plans to add more swings after the installers are done. There are flowers and shrubs being planted and more benches going in. A Memorial Garden is being planned for the future. The Committee will also be working with the Historical Society in making the gazebo more attractive and a safer place to hold functions.
On the dates of installation, the playground will be closed to the public so the installers can do their job. It will remained closed for several days after to allow time for cement to dry and the area to be made safe for children to use. The playground should be up and running once school is out for the summer. We thank you for your patience during this time and promise you will love the end result.
Many thanks go to so many in this community for the wonderful support, both monetary and volunteer time for making this dream become a reality. Thanks to those people, Crosby Park will not only be an area for children to play but for families to spend time together.
