Downtowners working to improve that part of town

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Dover-Foxcroft Downtowners met recently at Color of Life Studio at 66 East Main Street.
The Downtowners began in 2010 when Dover-Foxcroft was designated a Maine Downtown Network Community by the Maine Downtown Center. The Maine Downtown Center serves as state coordinator for the National Trust of Historic Preservation’s Main Street program, which has a reputation as a powerful economic development tool for vibrant, healthy downtowns. Dover-Foxcroft is one of 20 Maine Downtown Network communities.

The Downtowners work includes “So You Think You Know Dover-Foxcroft!” game night, surveys to determine what residents and visitors want downtown, the Imagine Tours and serving as the hosting  group for Bike Maine. With increased activity in Dover-Foxcroft’s Main Street — Center Coffee House, Color of Life Studio, Holistic Healing of Maine, new management at Pastimes Pub, the near-completion of the Dover-Foxcroft mill  and others — the Downtowners plan is to enhance downtown.
“Dover-Foxcroft Downtown is on its way to becoming a destination,” said Janet Sawyer, who has been involved with the Maine Downtown Center since 2010. “Businesses, residents and the town working together can push downtown forward.”
