Three Rivers Kiwanis welcomes Lt. Gov.
MILO — Three Rivers Kiwanis of Milo-Brownville (TRK) members were very pleased to welcome New England Kiwanis Div. 2 Lt. Gov. Larry Wade to the March 25 meeting. Lt. Gov. Wade makes at least one official visit per year to each of the clubs in Div. 2.
Lt. Gov. Wade
Lt. Gov. Wade told the club how he loves coming to the Milo-Brownville community and to the new Kiwanis building. He shared his appreciation for how TRK shares the building with the community; how proud he is of TRK, who is a big supporter of Project Eliminate the global campaign for children, uniting with UNICEF to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus from the earth, and told the club its division has 100 percent participation. He remarked the TRK Veteran’s Dinner each Nov. 11 is a really good way to get young kids involved in community service.
Lt. Gov. Wade presented a short video about Wil Blechman, past president of Kiwanis International, who was instrumental in developing the organization’s ongoing worldwide program Young Children: Priority One, which focuses on children from before birth through age 5.
“The way we end up as adults is largely a manifestation of what happens in the first five years of life,” Blechman said. The impact of The Eliminate Project and a worldwide project with UNICEF to increase iodine intake for small children has been far reaching and phenomenal. Lt. Gov. Wade proudly told us his wife, Deanna Wade, is a participant in the EMMC Cuddlers Group, which is a critical aspect of care for newborns.
