United Methodist Women installs new officers
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The United Methodist Women (UMW) met at the monthly meeting at Thayer Parkway Feb. 4. This was a very special meeting because the new officers were installed by Pastor Mark Stevens of the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church (UMC). Pastor Stevens read “Commitment for Leading Together”, an installation service. Installed were Ann Weston, president; Susan Stevens. vice president; Vicki Moschella, secretary; and Leona Dow, treasurer. The nominating committee members installed were Barbara Clark, Debbie Cole, Sheila Schaaf and Eunice Mitchell.

Pastor Stevens informed the UMW that the Living Word Food Cupboard closed its doors at the end of March. He, Pastor Chad Poland of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, and Jim Perkins of Penquis Cap are meeting to bring about the existence of the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard.
The program consisted of information about the UMW missions and projects in a presentation given by Karen Ritz Perkins from the United Methodist Conference. Some of the projects she mentioned are ones they are currently involved in. The church along with the UMW donate consistently to the food cupboard and will continue with the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard. The UMW also donates items to the SeDoMoCha School in the fall which are school supplies that the UMC congregation gives to the church. UMW members save their change throughout the year and then donate to the World Bank offering in November.
As a monthly mission, someone, some club or a worthy cause, will be chosen as the recipient of a donation. This month, they voted to give $75 towards diapers for the UMC Pay If Forward Shop. The shop gives clothing and other items away to children from preemie/newborn to teens. The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every second and third Wednesday of the month in conjunction with the WIC agency. The UMW have always supported this endeavor of the UMC and several members are active in running the shop.
The UMW does mission work on projects for children, youth and adults in the church community and abroad. The UMW meet the first Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m.
