PO-CharlesDooreSrOBALBION, ME – Charles Randall Doore, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on April 3, 2015. He is beloved by his wife of 63 years Martha Doore (née Cassidy), his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. Charles was born October 13, 1928, in Charleston, ME, the son of the late Clifford Harold and Laura Farmer Doore.
He is survived by his older sister, Dorothy Doore Cole; and younger brother, Maurice and wife, Beverly. He was a devoted father loved dearly by his children: Stephen Doore and wife, Penny, of Hallowell, James Doore and wife, Nancy, of Albion, Charles Doore Jr., Patricia LeBlanc and husband, Ronald, of Wells, Kathleen Ladd and husband, Ronald Alan, of Albion, and Brian Doore and wife, Stacy, of Bangor. His legacy is carried on by 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and their families. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He deeply grieved the loss of his third son, Charles Doore Jr., who predeceased him in 1973 at the age of 16. He was predeceased by his siblings, Harland, Harold, Lorenzo, Gladys Downs and Leone Palmer.
Charles was a man of strong character who lived his life in accordance with the values of hard work, close family, friendship and Christian faith.
He was immensely proud to have served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. During his long career as a truck driver, he traveled the state of Maine far and wide, making good friends at every stop with his charming smile and wonderful sense of humor. He formed especially close bonds with the crew at the Coles Express terminal in Sidney. He drove many long hours and worked hard to support his family, but he also made time to spend with his children, especially through his active involvement with the Boy Scouts.
In his retirement, he and his wife, Martha, spent many happy summers with their grandchildren at the family camp. A man of many talents, he was especially gifted at cribbage, sharing his love of the game with his children and grandchildren. He could often be found playing a hand with good friends like Dick Ladd over a cup of coffee. Through it all, he was sustained by his deep and abiding faith in the Lord, and was a longtime member of the Albion Christian Church community.
A memorial of his life was held on Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m., at the China Baptist Church, a gathering followed.
The family would like to thank Maine General Hospital Hospice Care, in particular Deb, Julianne, Jan, Julie, and all of the wonderful caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Maine General Hospital (PO Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903-0828) or to the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Maine (PO Box 132, Carmel, ME 04419).
Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Rd., Skowhegan, ME 04976.
