DOVER-FOXCROFT—The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts has announced that Executive Director Angela Bonacasa has tendered her resignation and will be leaving to pursue her true passion of performing, teaching and directing.
“Over the past two and a half years, Angela has proven herself a most valuable asset for not only Center Theatre, but our community as well.” according to a press release from the theatre’s board of directors.

“Angela is responsible for a tremendous amount of progress by Center Theatre over the last couple years. She has effectively provided excellent and varied programming for our community, while increasing the overall productivity of several primary revenue lines at Center Theatre,” said Tim Magee, Center Theatre chairman. “We will very much miss Angela and encourage everyone to take the time to thank her for the passion and dedication she brought to her role as Center Theatre’s leader.”
“I have absolutely loved my time at Center Theatre and getting to know so many wonderful people,” Bonacasa said. “As executive director, I have been able to increase my abilities in many areas and have gained a great deal of experience I know will serve me well in my future. My decision to resign was very difficult for me. Over the past several months, I have come to the realization that my true passions are more in line with actually performing on stage, teaching and directing, rather than managing a performing arts center. Now is the time for me to follow my dreams.”
Bonacasa will continue to be involved with Center Theatre in the future. Both she and Magee confirmed her continued involvement, especially during the search for a new executive director. “Angela has agreed to continue her daily work at Center Theatre through late March, after which time she will continue to assist Center Theatre as permitted by her schedule for teaching Stage Combat classes throughout across the nation,” Magee said. “Angela will also be involved with Whoopie Pie Festival 2015 and we are beginning to craft an educational Stage Combat series led by Angela later this year. And, if scheduling works out, we very much hope Angela will be able to direct upcoming live theatre with our community acting group, The Slightly Off-Center Players, in the future.”
The Center Theatre Board of Directors has created a search committee, led by Michael Kagan, to find a new executive director. “It will be difficult for us to find another executive director to fill the very large shoes of Angela. She has really been wonderful to work with and will be difficult to replace. Nonetheless, we are quite optimistic we will find the right person,” Kagan said.
An announcement will be made next week providing details for interested applicants for the executive director’s position.
