GFWC/Miosac Club meeting news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Fifteen GFWC/Miosac Club members braved the below zero weather to attend the Jan. 6 meeting “Crazy Hats and Game Night”. Members donned their favorite hats provided by Betty Harvey and Elaine Larson.
President Vicki Moschella opened the meeting. Elaine Larson led the Collect, American’s Creed and the Pledge of Allegiance. In the absence of Secretary Cathie Goodine, Minnie McCormick took roll and read the minutes of the Christmas Party and the Nov. 18. Carol Kilpatrick gave the treasurer’s report and both were accepted as read.

CRAZY HATS NIGHT — GFWC/Miosac Club members properly attired for Crazy Hats and Game Night on Jan. 6 were, from left, Betty Harvey, Betsey Ryan, Brenda Quiet and Roxy McGlauflin.
Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read the following correspondence: thank you from Veteran’s Affairs Chair McCormick for their donation. Thank you from Barb Austin for donations of $300 for Kiwanis Community Christmas. Thank you from Goodine for her Christmas wreath from the club. The Womancare/Spruce Run Alliance asking for a donation. American Mural Project asking for a donation to “Raise The Roof” on their building. New Year’s greetings from Dot Tonick.
Kilpatrick gave a report on the scholarship, noting that applications are being accepted and that they need to be in by May 15.
Advisory member Pat Jones spoke about the Harris Report that lists all Maine Club members. Moschella spoke about the elder abuse posters and a new one made by McCormick.
Suzanne Raymond brought a Linus quilt with some questions on how to report them. Members decided to have the quilts shown at the meetings. McCormick passed out new volunteer sheets and explained them.
International Affairs projects were discussed and members voted to support Heifer Project, Operation Smile, UNICEF and Shot at Life with $25 each.
Members put spare change in a jar at meetings to support a project of the club’s choice. This year’s profits will be donated to the adult daycare at Central Hall.
The traveling basket is being passed around as members receive it and refill it for the next person. This is a good fundraiser for the club.
Following the meeting members enjoyed refreshments provided by Brenda Quiet and McGlauflin as they enjoyed fun games of Dub’s Bridge with prizes awarded. Jones conducted a People’s Choice of hats. The person wearing the hat got the prize with Rheba Michaud wearing a very fancy silver hat of Betty Harvey’s. Quiet was a close second with her “chicken” hat. It was a fun evening.
The Jan. 20 meeting was scheduled to be an international dinner with hostesses Kilpatrick, Jones and McCormick. Members were asked to bring a favorite foreign dish to share.
