FA opens the indoor track season

    ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy boys indoor track and field team began 2014-15 by placing fourth out of seven schools during a Dec. 20 meet at the University of Maine. The Ponies recorded a score of 42 points.
    Leading the way was senior Peter Boyer with a first-place performance and junior Cooper Nelson with a pair of second-place finishes. Boyer’s throw of 41 feet, 11.5 inches was the best in the meet in the shot put, by over two feet. Nelson had the second-fastest time in the 800 at 2 minutes, 14.72 seconds and he placed second in the mile at 4:54.26

    Two Foxcroft relay squads ran to third-place finishes. Seniors Julian Zepeda and Dylan Richards, junior James Smith and sophomore Jason Eubanks combined for a time of 1:50.27 in the 4×200 relay. In the 4×800 competition senior Kelly Erickson, junior Gabe Piquette, sophomore Taylor Smith and junior Paul Birtwistle were third in 9:56.48.
    Also scoring points in individual events was Richards, fifth in the 55 meters at 7.25 seconds, and Piquette, fifth at two miles in a time of 11:48.06.
    The Foxcroft girls finished sixth of seven teams with 26 points. Senior Fern Morrison had a hand in 22 of the Pony points.
    Morrison won the 400, by about a second, in 1:04.53. In the 800 she was the meet’s runner-up with a time of 2:45.84. The Foxcroft 4×200 relay team, comprised of sophomore Erika Chadbourne, Morrison, junior Desirae Brawn and freshman Jordan Thomas, came in fourth with a time of 2:09.67.
    Brawn had four points for her team, placing fourth in the shot at a distance of 27-09.25.
