Directors needed for February one-act plays

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Slightly Off-Center Players and the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts are accepting proposals from directors interested in presenting a one-act play at the Center Theatre on Feb. 13-14. The one-acts will be performed each night and given the show dates of Friday the 13th and Valentine’s Day. The theme of the one-acts will be ‘Scary Love.’

“We’re not looking for a whole night of Zombie Romances,” said Center Theatre Executive Director Angela Bonacasa, “Though if there was a play like that out there it would be welcome. We’re looking for plays that deal with love and relationships, but also have a scary or spooky side. Maybe it’s love that’s so strong it scares us or a relationship born out of a frightening situation. We’re encouraging people to think outside the box and bring us their ideas.”
Directors can either bring a play they have already cast or choose from talented local performers at two auditions that will be held at the Center Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. and Sunday, Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. Rehearsal can begin as soon as the director has a cast and all the one-acts will begin tech rehearsals on Monday, Feb. 9.
Directors interested in participating should deliver their proposal via email to SOCP@centertheatre.org or drop them off at the Center Theatre prior to the end of business on Friday, Dec. 12. Proposals must include: Director’s Name, Name of the One-Act/Scene and Playwright, a synopsis of the play along with the number of characters and approximate length of the play, who holds the performance rights and cost to obtain the rights, technical needs and stage crew requirements, and a copy of the script or a link to the online script. There is no minimum length for the proposed pieces, but all must run under 30 minutes. Directors will be notified by Friday, Dec. 19 if their proposals have been accepted.
