Mayo Regional Hospital honors those who served in Veterans Day ceremony

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — Mayo Regional Hospital honored local and national veterans on Nov. 11 during a wreath dedication ceremony, held at the hospital on Veterans Day. The event was attended by community members, hospital staff and local veterans who came to show support and appreciation for the community’s veterans and their families.

    MAYO RECOGNIZES VETERANS — A wreath dedication ceremony at Mayo Regional Hospital honored veterans on Veterans Day (Nov. 11).     The ceremony opened with remarks from Brad Ellis of Mayo Regional Hospital’s Engineering Department and Commander of the American Legion Post 165 in Sangerville. Dr. Dave McDermott, director of in-patient and emergency departments at Mayo Regional Hospital, read a dedication honoring the nation’s troops and David Flaherty, PA, of Mayo Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department reflected on his service in Kuwait in 2013 and spoke about the support he received from the Mayo family and community while he served.
    During the ceremony, several community members and employees of the hospital honored their relatives who are currently serving or have served in the past.
    The wreath was presented by Ethel Hersey, a long-time hospital volunteer and widow of Harold Hersey, a pilot and POW during World War II. The wreath was dedicated at the hospital flag pole at the entrance, where it will remain as a visible reminder to honor the service men and women on Veterans Day and every day.
    The Maine State Veterans Home provided attendees with photos of state memorials.
