DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club resumed meetings with a “catching up with casseroles” supper at Thayer Parkway on Oct. 7 with 16 members and three guests present.

Three delicious casseroles with salads, breads and desserts were served by the Advisory Committee: Mae Johnson, Pat Jones and Minnie McCormick.
Following the meal, President Vicki Moschella called the meeting to order. Pat Jones led the Collect, Americans’ Creed and Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Jane LeVie gave a resume of her life and how she became a member of the Patawa Club.
Secretary Cathy Goodine took roll call and read the report with one correction. Treasurer Carol Kilpatrick gave the treasurer’s report including the monies raised this summer with the Community Directory and the yard sale. The proceeds will fund programs that Miosac Club sponsors.
Roxy McGlauflin read thank-you notes from Amber Chadraw, recipient of the Everett Fairbrother Scholarship, from Foxcroft Academy for providing the scholarship and Betsey Ryan for the sympathy card they received on the death of Pat’s brother and the gift she received from the club at the birthday dinner in May.
Pat Jones talked about the Marion Doore Park, stating that she would like to plant daffodils there in place of those that have not done well. The motion was made and accepted that she purchase the bulbs and be reimbursed by the club.
Carol Kilpatrick mentioned contacting the Boy Scouts to help with the cleaning. Bob Cress has removed the bench for the winter.
Mae Johnson reported for the Advisory Committee reminding members of contacting their speakers prior to the meeting they will speak. Pat Jones remarked about the successful yard sale and how members all worked so well together. She also noted that a young girl won the raffle, a Longaberger Basket provided by Barb Austin and how pleased she was to be the winner. Brenda Quiet won the afghan raffle, and the prize was donated by Athalie Burke.
President Vicki Moschella spoke about State President Marge Goodwin’s project Elder Abuse Awareness. We will be doing many things to make the public aware. “Make a Difference Day” is Oct. 25 and plans are being made to have a display about elder abuse. A committee was formed to work on that project. Barb Austin suggested doing something at one or all of the nursing homes. More details later.
The “traveling basket” was discussed and members voted to continue with the small in-house fund raiser. A name was drawn and the basket will start traveling at the next meeting.
The following members volunteered to serve on the new Scholarship Committee: Mae Johnson, Diane Leighton, Cathy Goodine, Vicki Moschella and Carol Kilpatrick.
The GFWC Fall Conference was held in Waterville Oct. 8-9 and several members attended.
It was announced that a chicken pie supper will be held Oct. 18 at the Congregational Church.
The next club meeting was scheduled yesterday with hostesses Athalie Burke and Dot Tonick. Cathy Goodine was to present Amy Guyotte, Legal Shield representative, and possibly a program on elder abuse.
