On Sept. 24, as part of Maine Harvest Lunch Week, kindergarten students at SeDoMoCha Elementary in Dover-Foxcroft were invited down to the kitchen to husk corn, donated by Rollins Orchards in Garland. Some of the kindergarteners had shucked corn before and for others the experience was brand new as they helped prepare the corn for the next day’s lunch — which also was comprised of pepperoni pizza, cherry tomatoes and Maine blueberries and cream. A portion of the students said they had never tried hot lunch, but planned to the day after in order to eat the corn on the cob they helped prepare. The kindergarteners also enjoyed roasted snack seeds for a snack and received milk stickers.
