Race To End Domestic Abuse

GUILFORD — On Sunday, Oct. 5 the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance will host the 18th annual Race to End Domestic Abuse at the Guilford Athletic Field on Route 15. This year’s race will feature a new, improved 5K route. A community cookout featuring hamburgers and hot dogs, French fries and drinks for purchase during and after the walk will provide the opportunity for refreshment. Music will be provided by “The Music Maker,” Steve Pratt, so gather friends, family and co-workers and mark calendars for an event not to be missed.

Registration for the 5K begins at noon and the race and walk will begin at 1 p.m. Medals will be awarded to runners finishing as the first- and second-place male and female overall in the three age divisions, and the first- and second-place male and female finishers overall will receive a gift certificate for a pair of Salomon trail running shoes.
There is a registration fee for runners, and walkers bringing in $20 or more in pledges will earn a T-shirt. All participants are encouraged to gather pledges. Anyone bringing in more than $100 in pledges will receive a special prize and the team which gathers the greatest amount of pledges will be acknowledged at the event and featured in media accounts following the event.
This is an event that will give organizations the chance to make a statement about intolerance for abuse. Formed teams are encouraged to wear identifying shirts with the organization logo and/or walk behind a banner so community will know these participants are working to end abuse.
For registration forms or pledge sheets, visit www.sprucerun.net or call 564-8165.
