Crisis intervention specialist to speak at NAMI community education session
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Ted Hunt, crisis intervention specialist with Community Health and Counseling Services (CHCS), will be the local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) guest speaker on Sept.15 at Mayo Regional Hospital at 6:30 p.m. in the Sebec Room.
Hunt has been with CHCS for 15 years. When a person with mental illness is in crisis, Hunt will interact by telephone or face-to-face to help the patient and family. Mobile crisis help is available 24/7. For crisis services any time, call 888-568-1112.
Hunt is also an instructor in NAMI’s Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) for police officers in Piscataquis County. CIT training is crucial for law enforcement members so that they understand the behaviors of mentally ill people as well as techniques for peaceful diffusion of difficult situations.
