Road race news

    Seven runners from the region were among the 568 to take part in the 34th annual Walter Hunt Memorial 3K on the Fourth of July from Brewer to Bangor.

    Placing 73rd was Stuart Hedstrom, 31 of Dover-Foxcroft, in a time of 11 minutes, 56 seconds. In 90th place was Chris Almy, 65 of Charleston, in 12:13. David Stanhope, 50 of Exeter, came in 232nd at 15:16.
    Erika Lenfest, 33 of LaGrange, placed 245th in 15:27. Coming in 507th was Mary Ann McQueen, 33 of Charleston, in 20:57. Shawn Wagner, 16 of Exeter, was 519th at 21:33. Six-year-old Lee McQueen of Charleston came in 547th with a time of 23:45.
    Winning the Walter Hunt Memorial 3K in 2014 was Adam Goode, 30 of Bangor. Goode won in 8:44, besting second place by over 30 seconds. Seventeen-year-old Kaitlin Saulter of Hermon was the women’s winner, also placing 37th overall, in a time of 11:04.
    On Independence Day Jensen Bissell, 60 of Milo, ran in the L.L. Bean 10K in Freeport. Bissell covered the 6.2 miles in a net time of 53 minutes, 28 seconds to finish 502nd out of 1,329 runners.
