Truck pull opens season at Harmony Fairgrounds on Saturday

HARMONY — On Saturday, June 21, the Patriarchs Club will open the Harmony Fairgrounds for the season’s first truck pull. This is the first event scheduled for the 2014 season.
The Harmony Free Fair, which is a well know Labor Day weekend tradition, took a financial hit last year when all the events on Sunday were rained out. As a result, funds are low and the announcer’s building in the truck pulling area is in desperate need of repair. The proceeds from this pull will be used toward the repair of that building and other improvements to the truck pull area.

The Patriarchs Club, sponsor of the Harmony Free fair, is anticipating many drivers will participate in this pre-fair season pull to help get their trucks ready for fair season and are hoping that many spectators will come to support them.
The pull gets underway at noon. There will be several classes including Street, Super and Street Diesel.
Bruce York is the event organizer and may be contacted at 683-5125 for more specific information on classes and rules of the event. A rain date of Sunday, June 22, has been scheduled for the truck pull in the event of bad weather on Saturday.
The Harmony Patriarchs Club was established in 1947 as a community betterment program. Since its inception, this charitable, nonprofit, all volunteer club has donated funds to many worthy community causes such as the purchase of the town’s first fire truck, construction of the recreation park and the acquisition of Harmony’s first and second ambulances.
The group also provides scholarships for high school students who are furthering their education and helps sponsor programs in the art and music programs for Harmony Elementary School. Most recently, the club sponsored a trip to the Maine Discovery Museum for students at Harmony Elementary School and the Hooked on the Maine Outdoors event that was held in Harmony.
The Patriarchs Club is always looking for volunteers. If you’d like to help out, contact the club president, Jeff Chadbourne at 683-5873 or any other club member.
For more information, visit the Harmony Free Fair Facebook page or the club’s website at www.harmonyfreefair.org.
