New hours, new summer programs at the Thompson Free Library

DOVER-FOXCROFT — There should be no more confusion about when the Thompson Free Library is open. The following library hours will be in effect throughout the year: Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m.-5 p,m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p,m.— closed Sunday and Monday.

The Wednesday special programs for children begin on June 25 with the theme Coastal Habitat. On July 2 Chewonki will present “Owls”.  Nancy Tyndall and her Milkweed Puppet Theater perform an original puppet show on July 9. “Coyote and the Boy” is scheduled on July 16.  On Tuesday, the previous evening, there will be an adult program on coyotes by the same presenters. A lively Mime and Music Workshop happens on July 23.  The programs wind down with popular juggler Conjuring Carroll on July 30.
On Aug. 20 there will be an additional program for all ages when Jimmy Gownley, whose latest graphic novel is “The Dumbest Idea Ever”, will talk about cartooning and writing graphic novels.
An independent reading program (with incentives) for children and teens will be offered from July 1 to Aug. 15. Reading during the summer for pleasure will help maintain and increase students’ very important reading skills. The library has many books from the Maine Student Book Award list as well as classics, series books, non-fiction, graphic novels, historical fiction, biographies and much more.
For adults the library has copies of the four books on the Maine Readers’ Choice Award list. After reading the four books people vote in September for their favorite and that determines which book receives the award.
For more information on these programs contact the library at 564-3350 or df@thompson.lib.me.us or at www.thompson.lib.me.us. The Thompson Free Library is also on Facebook.
