‘Golden Shorts’ look at aging in Maine
DOVER-FOXCROFT — As part of the Feel Good Piscataquis! initiative the PRYMCA and Charlotte White Center are hosting a free showing of “Golden Shorts” — four short documentaries that explore the challenges and concerns of Maine’s aging population. The films will be shown at Center Theatre on Saturday, May 24 at 6 p.m. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by “Feel Good Piscataquis!” project coordinators Meg Callaway and Erin Callaway.
The “Golden Shorts” are part of The Aging in Maine Screening Tour that was introduced in March at the Camden International Film Festival. The initial plan was to show the “Golden Shorts” in just 10 communities, said film director Ben Fowlie. The films have been so well received, though, that they have now been shown in more than 50 locations throughout the state.
Feel Good Piscataquis! is a collaborative community effort funded by the Maine Health Access Foundation to help people in Piscataquis County live healthier lives. MeHAF awarded Charlotte White a Thriving in Place: Across the Continuum of Care grant. The PRYMCA received MeHAF’s Healthy Community grant. The goal of both grants is to include people throughout Piscataquis in conversations about what they need to live healthier lives and to create a community project to help meet those needs.
