Track and field results

    The Foxcroft Academy track team was in action at Hampden Academy on May 9, with the Pony girls scoring 68 points to finish third out of seven schools.
    Foxcroft had three first-place performances. Mia Smith cleared the bar at 7 feet to win the pole vault, and Abigail Mcleod won the high jump at 4-06. The Pony 4×800 relay had the day’s fastest run with Liza Grigoryeva, Jen Clawson, Abigail Simpson and Fern Morrison combining for a time of 11 minutes, 28.29 seconds.

    Morrison was also second in the 800 with a time of 2:28.88. She anchored the second-place 4×400 relay, joining Kate Sukhanova, Erika Chadbourne and Mcleod for a time of 4:39.47.
    Foxcroft had four fourth-place performances. Chastity Vainio came in fourth in the 100 at 14.36 seconds and in the 4×100 relay Smith, Holly Fortier, Vainio and Mackenzie Coiley were fourth in 58.36 seconds. Jen Clawson placed fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:32.75, and fourth in the 3,200 was Anna Sedlackhova at 15:42.82.
    Other Pony point-scorers were Coiley, who was fifth in the shot put at 27-04 with Simpson sixth at 25-02; as well as Renee Shorey, sixth in the 400 at 1:18.38.
    Piscataquis Community High School placed sixth at the Hampden meet with nine points. Mariah Pettit came in third in the 100 with a time of 13.88 seconds and sixth in the 200 at 29.73 seconds. Kaitlyn Easler finished fifth in the 100 at 14.40 seconds.
    Tiia Kand, Michaela Pratt, Easler and Pettit combined for a time of 59.41 seconds in the 4×100 relay, as the four Pirates finished in fifth place.
    Ava Henderson scored all eight points for Greenville High School. Henderson was second in the racewalk at 12:37.01.
    In the boys’ meet, Foxcroft was third of six schools with a score of 94 points.
    Corey Bjornson led the Ponies by placing first in the shot, 45-10, and second in the discus, 126-05. He also ran the second leg of the second-place 4×100 relay team, joining Justin Diamond, Sebastian Zepeda and Judson Smith for a time of 3:51.26.
    Smith was the meet winner in the high jump, clearing 6-01. He also came in sixth in the 200 at 25.38 seconds.
    Cooper Nelson had the day’s second fastest time in the 800 at 2;15.79. He anchored the 4×800 relay to a second-place performance, following Noah Simpson, Paul Birtwistle and James Smith for a time of 9:33.65. In the 1,600 Nelson placed third at 4:57.26.
    Other Ponies in third place were the 4×100 relay (Justin Diamond, Peter Boyer, Dylan Richards and Zepeda) at 48.71 seconds; Zhe Chen in the 300 hurdles at 48.12 seconds; Gabe Piquette in the 3,200 at 11:55.90; and Boyer in the shot at 43-07.25.
    Noah Simpson came in fourth in the 3,200 at 12:05.52 and right behind was Birtwistle with a time of 12:23.83. Max Santagata placed fourth in the high jump at 5-02.
    Also scoring points was Zhe Chen, fifth in the triple jump at 35-01.50 and sixth in the 110 hurdles at 22 seconds; Diamond, fifth in the 200 at 24.94 seconds and sixth in the 100 at 12.19 seconds; and Richards, sixth in the 400 at 1:01.06.
    The boys from Greenville scored 14 points to place sixth in the standings. Howie Stone had the highest Laker finish by placing third in the high jump, 5-06.
    Matt DiAngelo came in fourth in the 200 at 24.76 seconds and he was fifth in the 100 at 12.10 seconds. Placing fifth in the 300 hurdles was Charlie Warman with a time of 51.37 seconds.
    On May 9 the Penquis Valley High School teams traveled to a meet in Bucksport. The Patriot girls finished four out of a field of eight with 75 points.
    Jordan Durant won both the 200 and long jump, at 29.31 seconds and a distance of 14-03.25. Courtney Bowers jumped respective distances of 4-04 and 27-09.25 to finish first in the high and triple jumps.
    Jessica Preble had the fastest time in the 400, at 1:11.50. She also was third in the 100 at 14.52 seconds.
    Also placing for Penquis was Zoe Berry, third in the javelin at 87-05 and fifth in the shot at 25-08; Bowers, fourth in the 100 at 14.79 seconds; and Isabel Ruffin, sixth in the 100 hurdles at 29.10 seconds.
    In the boys’ competition, Penquis picked up 71 points to finish fourth out of eight teams.
    Cevonte Johnson was the meet winner in the long jump at a distance of 19-01.25. Johnson ran the first leg of the second-place 4×100 relay team, followed by Joshua Gray, Michael Vachon and Clayton Tarnoczy for a time of 49.96 seconds. He also came in third in both the 100 and 200, at 12.31 and 25.82 seconds.
    Thomas Diaz placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:19.90. He opened the second-place 4×400 relay squad with Joshua Martin, Vachon and Tarnoczy following to help combine for a time of 4:06.91.
    Devon Strout came in second in the discus with a throw of 81-08. He also was sixth in the shot at 30-11.
    Other Penquis point-scorers were Gray, third in the long jump at 16-11.50; Martin, third in the javelin at 117-06; and Tarnoczy, fourth in the 200 at 26.14 seconds.
