Dover Cove Farmers’ Market opening day May 17

DOVER-FOXCROFT — It’s really spring, and farmers’ markets are opening all over the state of Maine. Our own local market, the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market, celebrates the beginning of its third season Saturday, May 17. The market will operate Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Tuesdays 2-6 p.m. through October on the corner of South Street (Route 7) and Pine Street, and hopes to find an indoor location to extend the season to the end of December. The Dover Cove Farmers’ Market welcomes credit/debit and EBT cards.

Maine is second only to Vermont in terms of citizens’ access to locally-produced food. Being able to say you “know your farmer, know your food” is one of the great blessings of living here. Represented at the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market are Leaves and Blooms Greenhouse (Gale and Peter Robinson and family of Dover-Foxcroft), Pike Farm (Doug and Carolyn Pike of Exeter), Rollins Orchard (Ernest and Andrea Rollins and family of Garland) and Cupcakes, Etc. (Jim Castonguay of Guilford). Spruce Mill Farm (Dustin and Natasha Colbry of Dover-Foxcroft), Farmer Sean’s (Sean Anderson and Kat Batey of Charleston) and Fussing Duck Farm (J.J. Starwalker of Corinth) are new to the market.
Activities and special guests will be on hand at Saturday markets regularly throughout the season. Individuals or groups interested in entertaining and/or educating market-goers should contact Janet Sawyer at the PCEDC, 564-3638.
Those in a hurry on Saturday mornings may order online through the Dover Cove Marketplace at http://harvesttomarket.com/farmers-market/Dover-Cove-Market-Place.  Orders placed by 7 a.m. Fridays can be picked up at the outdoor market Saturdays 10 a.m. to noon. The online market offers locally-produced vegetables, cider, apples, maple syrup and baked goods year-round. Payment for online orders may be made at pick-up using cash, check, credit/debit or EBT.
Both the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market and Dover Cove Marketplace are active on Facebook (www.facebook.com/DoverCoveFarmersMarket and www.facebook.com/DoverCoveMarketPlace). Look for photos, updates, inspiration and information about local food, farmers and the good life we share. Celebrate the community live and in person at Dover Cove Farmers’ Market Saturdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Tuesdays 2-6 p.m. Be healthier and happier knowing your farmer, knowing your food.
