PREVENT CHILD ABUSE AMERICA PINWHEELS — Pinwheels were placed at the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church by GFWC/Miosac Club member Minnie McCormick and associate member Leona Dow. The GFWC/Miosac Club supports Prevent Child Abuse America by placing pinwheels at the church. Prevent Child Abuse America is a nationwide project founded in 1972 in Chicago to work to ensure the healthy development of children nationwide. There are chapters in 50 states and overseas, and the pinwheel is the symbol of the movement. “A pinwheel also needs wind and with our actions and our intentions, we can be that wind,” club members said.
Minnie McCormick reported on publicity and that she and Leona Dow had put “Pinwheels for Prevent Child Abuse America” at the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church. Members voted to have the Boy Scouts clean up the Marion Doore Park and use funds from the Marion Doore fund.
McCormick reported on Newborns In Need and that she would not be collecting monies anymore. Betsey Ryan reported on the District 3 Art Contest held April 5 at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
Six members noted that they would be attending spring convention for at least a day. GFWC Maine President Anne Cress will complete her two-year term at that event.
Kilpatrick reported that the community directory was off to a good start. Ryan read the nominating committee’s slate of officers: President Vicki Mochella; Vice President Cress; Treasurer Kilpatrick; Recording Secretary Cathie Goodine; Corresponding Secretary McGlauflin; and Auditor Pat Jones. Elections will take place at the next meeting and they will be installed at the birthday dinner in May.
McCormick spoke about the Everett Fairbrother Scholarship and suggested that since funds are low, the club drop the scholarship in 2015. The motion was carried and Foxcroft Academy will be notified of that action. It is regrettable but necessary.
Members signed up for refreshments for the reception for GFWC Maine President Cress. McGlauflin distributed invitations to the 78th birthday dinner to be held in May.
Plans are for the yard sale to be held July 12 with a rain date of July 19th at the McGlauflin home on Lincoln Street. Members volunteered to be on the committee.
Members brought old cookbooks for a sale. The remaining books will go in to the yard sale. Delicious refreshments were then served.
The annual meeting with a brown bag lunch will be held on Tuesday, May 6. The meeting was then adjourned.
