Seven Div. III athletes honored by NFHCA

    The Husson University field hockey team has been selected to the 2013 National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association (NFHCA) Collegiate National Academic Team, and 12 individual members of the team have been named to the 2013 NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad.

    The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. To be selected for the National Academic Squad a student-athlete must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.
    Among Husson’s honorees are first-year student Lindsey Arno of Dover-Foxcroft, senior Mariah Arno of Dover-Foxcroft, first-year Whitney Arno of Dover-Foxcroft, first-year Sarah Eastman of Dexter and sophomore Hilary Kendall of Dover-Foxcroft.
    Seven members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies field hockey team have earned NFHCA National Academic Squad honors. 
    Among the seven at Southern Maine is senior Cristina Mountain of Dexter, who earns the award for the second time in her career. Mountain, an athletic training major, helped control the Huskies’ defensive midfield in 2013. She registered a pair of assists and had six defensive saves. She assisted on a goal in USM’s 3-2 overtime win over UMaine-Farmington and earned her first helper of the season assisting on the Huskies’ third goal in a 3-0 win over Wheaton College.
    The Thomas College field hockey team earned the National Academic Team Award and 12 team members were named to the National Academic Squad. Sophomore Crystal Cunningham of Dexter earned the honor for the first time.
    The NFHCA is a non-profit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the U.S. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
