Dover-Foxcroft

Kiwanis Canoe Race featured in Internet movie

DOVER-FOXCROFT — As Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club members began to prepare for the 42nd Annual Piscataquis River Race on April 26, they were surprised to discover a film about the 2009 race on the Internet.
Kiwanis President-elect Dennis Lyford was looking at the short film website Vimeo.com; and when he put Dover-Foxcroft in the search bar, “I discovered 10 films about Dover-Foxcroft,” said Lyford.

“I was  very surprised to see a film about the Piscataquis River Race. This film was about the 37th annual race and was shot in 2009. As far as I know, no one in the club was aware of its existence.”
The film was part of a web series, call Flip Outdoors, an outdoor adventure series featuring two filmmakers Jim and Luke (last names unknown) who travel throughout the state documenting Maine outdoor activities.
“It’s a very good film,” said Lyford, which begins with the racers driving to Guilford to register and ending back in Dover-Foxcroft. “I think anyone who has been in the race or anyone who is thinking about joining the race for the first time will enjoy this film,” he added.
To view the film, visit www.flipoutdoors.com or go to www.vimeo.com and type Dover-Foxcroft Maine in the search bar to see this film plus others about the community.
Lyford encourages everyone who watches  this film to join the Kiwanis on April 26 at 10 a.m. for the Guilford to Dover-Foxcroft, 42nd Annual Piscataquis River Race.
For more information about the Piscataquis River Race visit the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club’s web site at www.doverfoxcroftkiwanis.org.
