GFWC/Miosac Club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club met March 18 at Thayer Parkway with 10 members and one guest present. Carol Kilpatrick introduced Nina Brawn. local genealogist.
Brawn spoke about ways to find information, how to set up books to keep records. She warned that all you find in the records is not always true, sometimes things get embellished. Members shared some of their family histories as well. Brawn has a column in the Piscataquis Observer bi-monthly.

President Betsey Ryan called the meeting to order and thanked hostesses Betty Harvey and Minnie McCormick as well as Program Chairman Kilpatrick. McCormick led the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. Diane Leighton took roll call and read the minutes of the last meeting.
The treasurer’s report was given and accepted. Kilpatrick reported that $323 will be sent to Newborns In Need. Roxy McGlauflin read a note from Davida Barter, GFWC/Maine conservation chairman. Get well cards were signed for Cathie Goodine, Dot Finnemore and Laura-jean Eckard. McCormick reported that she has been sending news to the Piscataquis Observer regarding the meetings and other events.
Elaine Larson, reporting for the advisory committee, stated that the program for the next meeting needs to be changed. Members voted to have a potluck supper that was cancelled from a previous meeting, that meeting will start at 6 p.m. on April 1.
Under new business, McCormick asked members to participate in a reception for the GFWC/Maine President Anne Cress, a member of the Miosac Club. Members approved and the date is April 26, all GFWC/Maine Club members will be invited. Cress will end her two-year term in May.
McCormick also noted that April 8 is Prevent Child Abuse America Day. This is a national project and the GFWC partners with Prevent Child Abuse America — the symbol is pinwheels. McCormick asked members to purchase pinwheels to be displayed in a prominent spot in town. Members approved the idea. McCormick also asked that the club not participate in obtaining GFWC/Maine Directory ads this year as the club is doing a community business directory. Members voted to accept the motion .
The meeting was then adjourned. Hostesses served delicious refreshments from a kite-decorated table.
