‘Doc’ Sherman recognizeded at Kiwanis dinner
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Harold “Doc” Sherman was honored for his 57 years of membership in the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis at the club’s annual mid-winter social, held at the Bear’s Den on the evening of Feb. 11.
The dinner was attended by 48 members of the Kiwanis Club including those from the Milo/Brownville Kiwanis, Dexter Kiwanis, Old Town–Orono Kiwanis and the Greenville Kiwanis clubs.
Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis President Bob Moore, not only thanked Sherman for his 57 years of service, but also for being the club’s No. 1 raffle ticket seller and his work on the Guilford backpack program. Moore pointed to several trophies on the head table that were present to the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club by the New England Kiwanis District for the numbers of Kiwanis clubs visited each year. If it was not the work of “Doc” Sherman these award would not be here, said Moore. After the award was presented, several guests shared some amusing story of “Doc” Sherman’s 57 years with the Kiwanis.
The club also honored Rita Page, with the International Kiwanis Zeller Award for her service to the Red Cross as well as her service to our Kiwanis Club, said Moore, She is a great member of our club as well as outstanding citizen of Piscataquis County, he added.
Winter raffle chair Tim Hague thanked the club members for their support of this year fuel oil raffle. He especially thanked the A.E. Robinson Oil Company, Dead River Company and McKusick Petroleum for their donation of fuel oil for this year’s raffle. The three raffle winners will be contact by phone, said Hague.
