Our Lady’s Kitchen receives $1,500 from Souper Bowl of Caring

DEXTER — For the first time, St. Anne Church in Dexter, St. Agnes Church in Pittsfield and St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Dover-Foxcroft participated in the annual Souper Bowl of Caring on the weekend of Feb. 2.
The national event promotes service and 100 percent of the monetary and food donations collected over the weekend are given to local charities. In their first Souper Bowl of Caring, members of the church youth ministry groups in  Dexter, Pittsfield and Dover-Foxcroft collected nearly $1,500.

“I want to thank all who were so generous with their donations, and the youth for participating in this project,” said Fr. Joseph Cahill, pastor of all three churches. “All of the proceeds will be given to Our Lady’s Kitchen.”
Our Lady’s Kitchen is an all-volunteer effort which serves free meals in the parish hall of the St. Anne Church. The program, which began in 2008, serves free Sunday meals to anyone who stops by, regardless of age, race, gender or faith.
Annually, the kitchen serves nearly 5,000 meals. Much of the food is donated by parish and community members, including food grown in their very own gardens.
