GOLF FORE HOSPICE — Dan Decker ties off during last year’s Pine Tree Hospice Snow Golf Tournament. The 2014 tourney and family fun day is scheduled for Feb. 8 at the Foxcroft Golf Club (snow date is Feb. 9).

Teams of two can compete in the scramble-format golf tournament — which requires no actual golf skills whatsoever — any time between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. while the activities will start up at 10 a.m. A delicious lunch will be served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and at 11:30 a.m. judges Tom Goulette, Bob Ade and Melinda Wentworth will award prizes for the Chili Cookoff, which will feature offerings from Flatlanders, Nor’easter, Lakeshore House, Hobnobbers and defending champion Spring Creek. Prizes will also be awarded to the golf tandems that finish first, second, third and last.
Chris McGary and Dennis Aplanalp fired a 34 to best 19 other twosomes at last year’s event, which helped raise more than $3,000 for Pine Tree Hospice, a volunteer hospice that has been providing critical services to the community for more than 25 years despite receiving no federal, state, or insurance funding.
“Revenue from fundraisers like this is essential for us to be able to provide support to the 39 towns in our service area,” said Jane Stitham, executive director of Pine Tree Hospice.
The cost for playing snow golf (which includes lunch) is per player with a discounted student rate as well as different rates for lunch only and families that would prefer to eat lunch and participate in the activities only. There is no charge for those who would like to do the activities but don’t want lunch.
This year’s event will be moved to Sunday, Feb. 9 in the event of inclement weather. To receive additional information or pre-register, please call Pine Tree Hospice at 564-4346.
