On Jan. 9 SeDoMoCha Middle School hosted the district spelling bee, with the top four spellers in grades 5-8 at the Dover-Foxcroft school competing for the chance to move on to the Maine Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 22 at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. After over a dozen rounds only seventh-grader Isabella Santagata and grade 6 student Steffi Victoria remained. The two had another dozen rounds between them before Victoria correctly spelled juxtapose to win the bee. She received $50 and a trophy for finishing in first place, while Santagata won $25 and will serve as the alternate for the State Bee. Among the bee participants were front, from left, fifth-graders Ava Rayfield, Maren O’Connell, Noah Lamb and Cameron Blakely.
