THE WINNER — Darlene Chadbourne’s winning coffee chocolate fruitcake.

The library was beautifully decorated with a beautiful 12-foot Christmas tree and garlands of white pine, with fir and cedar displayed on all the fireplaces.
Eight cakes were entered and judging began promptly at 2 p.m. Judges were Toni May of Wellington and Dawn Hunt and Ron Apel of Dexter. Third place was won by Sandy Graham of Dexter with her recipe for mixed nut fruitcake, which received high marks for its beautiful appearance. Jane Steiner’s  easy mocha fruitcake  placed second.
While the judges were still deliberating, the fruitcakes were sliced and served to the participants along with hot coffee and tea.
