Recently, Jenna Mehnert, NAMI Maine’s executive director, met with local NAMI members in Dover-Foxcroft to assist in the official establishment of the NAMI Piscataquis County affiliate. Those in attendance were, from left, Mehnert, Beth Ranagan, Stephanie Shahin, Ola Boutilier, Beverly Tucker, Debbie Somers, and Joseph Ranagan (not shown).

The group completed a 12-week session of NAMI’s signature and nationally recognized course, Family-to-Family, in August. As teachers or graduates of the course, they will create and become members of the board of directors of this new affiliate that offers the Family-to-Family course, other educational opportunities, advocacy and a monthly support group for family and friends of those with mental illness. The support group meets on the last Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at Mayo Regional Hospital in the Borestone Room. For further information, call 924-7903 or 564-2393.
