Waterfall tours and a ‘spooktacular’ party at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Even though the days are getting shorter, things are still very busy at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA in October.

Registered Maine Guide Ed Mathieu will be leading three different guided waterfall tours. On Oct. 19, he’ll lead a group to Moxie Falls; on Oct. 26 to Little Wilson Falls; and the final trip on Nov. 2 will be to Houston Stream Falls.
The cost for each trip is $25 for the public, but only $20 for Y members. Also, if you sign up for more than one trip there is a $5 discount per additional trip.

HALLOWEEN TRICYCLE PARADE — Students at the Children’s Learning Center at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building in Dover-Foxcroft concluded a week of bicycle and tricycle safety with a parade on the morning of Halloween. The children, dressed for the holiday, rode around the gymnasium in parade formation and then went down the building hallway and back to the gym. The children also raised money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Then on Friday, Oct. 25 the PRYMCA will hold a “spooktacular” Halloween bash for kids age 3 and up so parents can enjoy a well-deserved night out. The kid’s party will go from 5:30-9 p.m. and the cost is only $25 for one child, $35 for two, and $40 for three. The kids will enjoy games, dancing, arts and crafts, dinner and a movie, and more.
Pre-registration is required, so the PRYMCA encourages all interested parents to get their boys and ghouls signed up by Oct. 18.
The PRYMCA pool has been closed for annual maintenance, but will reopen on Monday, Oct. 14. Along with a full schedule of classes, swim lessons, and open swim time, the Waves swim team will be starting up their season. The Waves is a great way for kids to experience the joy of competitive swimming within a friendly environment with a focus on education and growth.
Anyone interested in learning more about joining the team should contact Chris Wesley at the PR YMCA at 564-7111.
