VEHICLE, HOUSE FIRE

VEHICLE, HOUSE FIRE — A van was destroyed and a Grange Street home in Dover-Foxcroft sustained damageto a portion of the exterior during a late afternoon fire on Wednesday, Sept. 25.  The handicapped accessible van, which belonged to the late Albert Sands and was parked at the home of his wife Flora Sands, was started in order to be moved, but the vehicle backfired and flames started shooting up (the heat would end up blowing out the windows). Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department officials said the van was towed to move the vehicle away from the home, which limited the fire damage from spreading beyond the nearby house wall. A call was made requesting mutual aid, but Dover-Foxcroft firefighters ended up getting the blaze under control and returned to the fire station less than two hours after leaving for the scene.
