Sound Bites 2013 raises $3,000 for hospice
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy hosted Pine Tree Hospice’s Sound Bites, an annual fundraising event featuring excellent musical entertainment and delicious desserts, in the well-decorated FA gymnasium on the evening of Sept. 7. This year’s gathering was headlined by String Field Theory, an acoustic band composed of Sid Stutzman, Brian Smith and Dawn Potter; The Josh Guthrie Trio, a versatile band made up of Josh Guthrie, Bruce Robinson and Jack Eastman; and harpist Isleen Halvorsen. Dr. Lesley Fernow emceed the event with aplomb and even fired off an impromptu comedy routine with Foxcroft Academy’s own Sam Keane — a member of the Class of 2014.

Many volunteers conspired to pull off this year’s Sound Bites, and Pine Tree Hospice Executive Director Jane Stitham is grateful for their contributions. “The musicians, the bakers, and the many other volunteers who pitched in one way or another made this night a reality,” Stitham said. “It was an amazing effort by volunteers and community members, and the Key Clubs from Penquis and FA were a huge help. We also greatly appreciate the use of FA’s gym and the work done by their maintenance crew.”

The combination of ticket sales, sponsorships and donations netted just under $3,000 for Pine Tree Hospice, a volunteer hospice that has been serving the surrounding community for more than 25 years despite receiving no federal, state, or insurance funding.
Sound Bites was preceded by three other successful fundraisers in 2013: the Snow Golf Tournament at the Foxcroft Golf Club in February, the Variety Show at the Center Theatre in April and the Triple Crown Golf Tournament at three different courses in May. “The revenue we’re able to generate from our four major annual fundraisers allows us to continue providing support to the 39 towns in our service area,” Stitham said.
