Author Caverly paddles the Allagash for Y campers
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA recently welcomed Tim Caverly, author, teacher and former supervisor of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, to talk to the Y’s Summer Camp Kids. For an hour the kids were held spellbound by Caverly’s tour of the waterway and the colorful animals and stories gleaned from a career paddling Maine waters. Caverly has written several books and loves talking to kid’s groups. “Over the past three-and-a-half years I’ve talked to over 3,400 students around the state. My hope is to encourage kids to read, to explore the four corners of our wonderful state, and to visit their local libraries,” Caverly said.

‘Y’ SUMMER CAMP — Tim Caverly talks about the Allagash Waterway to kids in the Y’s Camp Katahdin summer camp.
Caverly’s talk at the Y was sponsored by the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club. “I was thrilled to have Mr. Caverly come and talk to our camp kids,” said Emily Henderson, the Y’s Child Care Coordinator. “We’ve taken the kids on different trips including an overnight at the AMC lodges and a trip up Borestone Mountain. But thanks to the Kiwanis they can experience a part of our state that most have never seen.”
Caverly always welcomes opportunities to speak to school kids and community groups. He can be reached through his website www.AllagashTails.com.
