Kids trot like ponies during PRYMCA’s 1K

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The 2013 Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming celebration started off at a trot once again this year with the annual Piscataquis Regional YMCA Kids Pony Trot 1K. The race, which is open to ages 5 and older had 13 racers this year.

EXCITED FOR THE PONY TROT — Thirteen boys and girls, ages 5 and up, ran in this year’s Piscataquis Regional YMCA Kids Pony Trot 1K on the morning of Aug. 3. Olivia Wesley was the fastest runner with a time of 2 minutes and 59 seconds.

    “The kids weren’t slowed down by the foggy weather, that’s for sure,” said Chris Wesley, the race organizer and program director for the Piscataquis Regional YMCA. “The Pony Trot is a great way to get kids moving and hopefully instill in them a love of running which will last the rest of their lives.”
    Wesley also announced at the Pony Trot that the Y would be holding its first annual stand-alone Kid’s Triathlon in September. “This kid’s triathlon will be open to individual kids and to children who want to form teams with their friends,” he said. “We hope to build on the success of our Sprint Triathlon and give the kids their own time to shine.”
    Winner’s of this year’s Pony Trot were as follows: In the 9 and up age group, first place and overall race winner was Olivia Wesley with a time of 2 minutes and 59 seconds, second was won by James Jankunas with a time of 3 minutes and 24 seconds and in third place was Alyssa Boyd with a time of 3 minutes and 35 seconds.
    In the girls 8 and under category Iris Stutzman came in first with a time of 3 minutes and 37 seconds, Lexi Wesley came in second with a time of 3 minutes and 53 seconds, and third place went to Dorothy Ferrigno with a time of 4 minutes and 3 seconds.
    In the 8 and under boys category Devin Henderson took top honors with a time of 3 minutes and 49 seconds, Jack Caruso came in second with a time of 4 minutes 38 seconds and third place went to Jack’s brother Griffin Caruso with a time of 5 minutes 25 seconds.
